For crying out loud, up til the last panel, the whole strip reads like a parody of "hate crime" laws.
That's the joke. It makes us think the comics going to be about making fun of misapplied accusations of racism, then surprises us with a joke about racism in reporting. We're not supposed to agree with Superman, we're supposed to be distracted by the absurdity of his argument so that the punchline actually surprises us. This use of misdirection and surprise is why this is the best SMBC I've seen in ages.

I would have thought that Superman would be able to publish the news himself, given that he works for the Daily Planet as a reporter and newscaster.

Rolled up is the new kind of papers, it's better trust me I was a paper boy once. It was not a fun job, because I wasn't allowed to throw the papers in the general direction of people's houses, I had to put them through their letter boxes.

Every time I saw an american style paper boy I got so jealous.

Why is the newspaper a scroll?

And this is what I get for not reading the previous page for context.

The irony is delicious.

Hmm.

Sorry to change the topic but check out panel 6! This is a type of eyeball that Zach should start using either way more often or always, imo!

What struck me as weird is that Superman is the media. His day job is reporter for the Daily Planet. So you'd think he'd have some pull.

I suppose in an ideal world, the headline would have been "Lex Luthor Convicted of Racism". With maybe some mention of the mass murder charges being added to his racism sentence.

"I've learned my lesson, Superman. Next time I poison a water supply, I'll make sure that it's not in a minority area."

For crying out loud, up til the last panel, the whole strip reads like a parody of "hate crime" laws.

Modern society doesn't give a toss about poor people, especially if they're minorities.
And what does that have to do with Celebrity Nipples?
Unless the joke is that the papers chose not to cover a massive genocide.
In favor of celebrity nipples. Yes. That's the joke.

That's what struck me about the comic, too.
I guess they're an acceptable sacrifice for putting Lex Luthor away?

Y'know, 'cause they're minorities.
Lex states in the first panels that it's too late to him to help =P
Supervillains say that all the time. It's like, page one in the Supervillain-to-English phrasebook.
