Donny, a point is not the most aerodynamic shape, at least not when it comes to hats. Stress builds around the point, causing it to buckle and instantly become a crumpled mess. The popes strategy of a gentle curve is in fact a far superior design.

I don't like the idea of opinions being wrong, but they are. Often. Including mine (though I'd argue less often).

In the case of Kaharz his opinion is both right (he is making personal judgments on the work) and potentially wrong (he is making a statement about the author's body of work based on only a portion of the work).

Okay, shoving my pedant hat on.

That sounds like something an andy would say to distract the rest of us. Why don't you go back to Mars android.

Smiley - It is a reference to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, the Phillip K. Dick book that Blade Runner was based on.
Ah, thanks. Fringe must have been a reference to that too. One of these days I really do need to get around to checking him out.

I thought A Scanner Darkly was one of the most coherent books I've read by Dick. Yea, it is a bit tough since the main character is more or less insane, but I didn't have any problems with it.

On another PK Dick note, if you haven't seen the android someone made of made of him, you should google it. It is amazing and creepy.

No, dude, you can't be wrong if you're stating an opinion.

I also found Scanner Darkly a bit tough going; it's one of those books you're better just drifting through, not worrying if you've missed something, and that might hold true about his wider works too. Think of reading them like looking at a properly abstract painting -- it doesn't matter if you're not catching all the details, the beauty is in the overall effect.

And it's better if you squint.

I don't know. I didn't really enjoy his books from the mid to late 60s when he was apparently more or less constantly and severely intoxicated (the afterword in A Scanner Darkly talks about this some). They are brilliant ideas, but they are so disjointed they can be a bit tough to read. Frequently while reading Androids Dream I'd think I missed a page because he jumped around so wildly and his transitions were so rough. His earlier works are good, but the resolutions can be kind of weak. His stuff from the 70s on is amazing. I've only read about half his novels, so maybe I'm wrong.

Is the title of this thread a Fringe reference?
