Interesting fact: I don't know what vis a vis means, only how to use it.
Perhaps in oral communication, but not in writing. Putting a comma after it makes no sense.

On the contrary, I am admiring their effort and dedication. In fact, I pledged $500 to ANWA last year (scumbag IRS audited me for deducting it). You see, fox tossing (as well as seal-clubbing) is a time honored tradition in my family. Yet the authorities won't let us partake in the sport deeming it "inhumane" and "barbaric". It is only through these brave lads' efforts that I can hope to bring legitimacy to this gentleman's sport. THE PUBLIC MUST KNOW!

Sir, I am deeply offended by your insult to my intelligence. What's worse you insult the selfless Wikipedia contributors who labor tirelessly to edify you on such critical topics as The Cat piano and Fox Tossing.

It means "face to face."

Isn't it amazing how little help that is when it comes to making sense of it?
