Oh. Never heard of that.

Australian stereotypes in Germany ... I think mostly that you're all superrelaxed and go surfing all the time.

Even tonight, I was listening to our relatively new independent radio station, which is known largely for promoting the local bar culture, and was shocked to hear an ad, by "Oh Brother Radio" (which exclusively broadcasts from bars and frequently features the subversive local internet media), for a new Methodist ministry from a large local church. They (the Christians) run all the major businesses in the area, and the most successful service companies feature scriptures on their maintenance trucks. It's like another world down here (or up here, or over here, depending on your own locale).
I feel like I should start complaining about the exemptions the Christian churches get in Germany. Like they can actually fire people for being lesbian or getting divorced and stuff.

Also today I reminded the head of the alternative-currency-service-exchange I'm part of - again - that I did not agree to my e-mail address being used for getting church leaflets (with their events) forwarded. Of course they will just continue doing it >:-| . (Okay so that's about the level of discrimination atheists who are not seeking employment in an area dominated by the church, like kindergartens and hospitals, face in Germany.)

We don't use all caps in 'Mer'ca, though.

I'm just trying to trample on your hopes and dreams and keep you level headed.

Welcome, if you are bored feel free to introduce yourself on the introduction thread. Where all the cool people introduce themselves and then are never heard from again. I don't know why this is. We're all perfectly nice to them.

Geez, man, I wasn't trying to credit for the whole thing; only meant to say that it seemed like a very warm welcome. But maybe I was mistaken...

There's a secret trick I've learnt. Not many people know about it. Apply the word to google.

On a side-side note, I had a clock repair man out tonight, and was just floored to have him arrive in the form of a sixties-era hippie, complete with beard, pony-tail, and "hey man" accent and cadence. It's always nice to get a sign that the wife and I are not alone out here...

The mailpeople look like that, but without the corks.

Yeah, had no idea about the cork hat stereotype till I started looking at Australia more closely before I came. But what on earth is a drongo?

I've grown up around Baptists and I'm not very fond of their beliefs. We have quaint stereotypes about how upbeat Mormons are about trying to convince others.

If we got Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses come knocking, it'd at least be entertaining.
Why would those be more entertaining?
