That probably has something to do with the quality of what you call "beer".

When you live in Bavaria, you don't see that word so often.

It's also listed in any reasonable dictionary as "obsolete", which is stronger than "archaic" and way stronger than "dated". It's a word that literally isn't used in the English language in real life anymore.

The entire basis of this illusion is that seeing the word *literally at all* when you didn't even know it was a real word before will make you hyper-aware of the word's presence, thus you will feel like you encounter the word way more than is reasonable based on your "past experience".

The illusion doesn't work if hearing the word in real life is literally impossible unless you're talking about this exact SMBC comic.
