Only by assigning the presumed gender does the conversation in the comic become widely accepted as not offensive.
In other combinations the missing respect makes the conversation offensive.
Also imposing your attitudes towards gender in society is even worse than automatically assigning gender, because it fails to deliever the respect you demand yourself, while attacking someone who actually wants people to respect themselves without ignoring his own demands.
