Actually, in Islam we believe that not every single Muslim goes to heaven right away like you Christians do. Yeah I think you are buddhist but shut up. Those that have not done enough to enter heaven are sent to hell and must pray while burned in the hellfire until they have atoned. Some will be let out afterward. It's a long passage that I don't have fully translated to english, but that's about all you guys care about.

It is interesting we are talking about this, because I'm currently reading a book that concerns itself with Purgatory (The Great Divorce by CS Lewis), have had Purgatory on the brain recently (even before reading said book) and have thought about doing some writing on subject (again, before reading the book, and the writing might even be, gasp, creative writing!)

I don't think I've done any since highschool. And even then it was really trite existential nonsense. This one actually has some form. Though I'm not sure what it will be. I'm going to start it as vignettes, as that is where my mind is right now. Hopefully I'll be able to meld it together into some sort of coherent story. It'll even have imagery!
