A long article but an interesting read. A "what if" scenario placing us two years in the future after marijuana has been legalized for those adults who are 21 years and older.

Isn't that also largely ironic in a way?

Quite. Saying so will only continue the thread...should I lock it?*

*Or would that be ruining a good thing?

Definitively ruining. In fact, the mere argument we're having is ruining it. I take half the blame for it if you'll take your part of it too...

I vote we leave it unlocked, but shift the topic of discussion to something else.

What's the deal with fashion magazines?

I thought the footnote was enough to show I was joking about locking it.

Fashion magazines are the porn of the incredibly desperate.

Nuh-uh. I don't put much stock into this sort of thing, I'd rather use existing case studies than theoretical situations. That is to say... I think it'd be a good idea to legalise it, but this is just silly.

That photo at the top, by the way, is awesome. It totally looks like one of my friends when she's incredibly stoned.

Any savings realised in the legal system would have to offset the cost of policing the crops. It's one thing to break into a distillery. It's something else entirely to wander into a field and harvest your own. Tobacco farms are a good model for this.

Another issue would be management. It would probably devolve into yet another licensing issue. You can apply for a license to use, which can be revoked if use leads to abuse, whilst the retailer is required to validate the license before dispensing.

All in all, probably won't produce that much revenue, or save much on bureaucratic expenditure.

It would be interesting to know how many man hours are spent annually on policing cannabis.

I think all of the money is supposed to come back through taxation.

I see weed as a rebellious drug. Maybe just among the people I knew/hung out with. Not to say that they wouldn't use it were it legalized, but I'm not sure they wouldn't have strayed further into drugs if it was legalized.

That's a thing I noticed; rebellious teens get stoned all of the time and think it's the best thing ever, but the more straight-laced ones often feel uncomfortable or simply don't really care about it.

I would be willing to bet that so long as there's a social stigma attached to it, people would still get high to be rebellious.
