Murakami wrote a book about terrorists in Japan who did the whole sarin gas thing in the subways but I've yet to read it. The thing was that their terrorists were associated with a cult of sorts, and in the end all of them denied responsibility for the actions of Aum Shinrikyo and blamed everything on Shoko Asahara, their leader. So, turns out terrorists can be bad people.

The same thing happened in the aftermath of World War II, where Germans struggled to pin everything on Hitler. By contrast, the Japanese found a scapegoat to deny Hirohito's responsibility. People are different in all times and places, I guess.

The Reavers are one of the creepiest villains of all time, in my opinion. They aren't really present, but you know they are there, and they are completely amoral. Remorseless, brutal creatures.
Frankly it is what makes a great baddy. Its why Hannibal Lecter and Ledger's Joker were so effective.
