That's why the guy shouldn't have gotten caught. Totally weaksauce. If you are gonna be a "guerilla artist" then you have to understand that it's not that I don't appreciate you turning my mailbox into a monster(or some other such nonsense), but if I catch you, you are gonna have to pay for it.

If Fenghar catches you messing with his mailbox, he takes care of it, Pulp Fiction style*.

*Specifically the rape scene.

Specially since my mailbox is made out of brick. I would probably be a little bit angry.

Yup. People nowadays are completely shocked and floored by consequences - doubly so when they're not the ones who are paying for a mistake. (e.g., "WHY SHOULD THIS GUY GO TO JAIL ALL HE DID WAS DESTROY CITY PROPERTY WARRRRRGH VOTE RON PAUL".)

I hate Ron Paul. Specifically because I would absolutely love him because of his methods except for the fact that he's totally misguided.

But what's the logic in sending him to jail? It won't bring that property back. In fact, it will put the city further in the hole because they have to pay for his food and lodging for whatever jail term he is sentenced to. Impart a punishment that helps fix the problem, not one that just inflicts misery at everybody's expense.

Judge him with the laws of the Code of Hammurabi.

I doubt Hammurabi offers much guidance on "stole traffic cones and turned them into a barrel monster." I mean, he had a lot, but I think it falls short of that.

I thought the Code only cared about who did the stealing, not what was being stolen.

Was it take his thieving hand or poke out his eye?

If a man steal ox or sheep, ass or pig, traffic control drum with ten-finger-wide reflective bands or boat--if it be from a god (temple) or a palace, he shall restore thirtyfold; if it be from a freeman, he shall render tenfold. If the thief have nothing wherewith to pay he shall be put to death.

Thanks for clearing that up, Hammurabro.

Just sentence him to community service setting up traffic cones or something.

-From the Desk of Hammurabi-

Don't mention it, Fenghar. Hey, did I leave my cordless drill at your place last week?

You'll note Hammurabi said nothing about jail time. I'm just saying.

Did anybody say the guy should go to jail instead of pay for the ruined property and possibly some community service? I wasn't paying a lot of attention.

::EDIT::
Longer article. Also apparently the construction company the artist stole the barrel from does not want to press charges, but the Police are going to go ahead and charge him with vandalism anyway.
