Re: This week in Australia
Ever since seeing all those terrible ads for that terrible movie, I find the use of 'smurf' in any linguistic sense horrendous.

Papa smurf should never have given into the ray ban trend!

Re: This week in Australia
The issue with the Occupy Melbourne protests is that whether one agrees with the protesters or not, they do have the right to protest and voice their opinions publicly. Unfortunately our mayor doesn't seem to think so, and the police seem to have been somewhat unnecessarily forceful in attempting to remove the protesters.
I do wish they'd be more clear about what actions they're asking for though, as given we already have a lot of the reforms the American protesters are after I'm not really sure what specifically they want.
Aand, on further investigation it seems a lot of those people are Socialist Alternative, who aren't really known for their sanity. I'm all for reducing the gap between rich and poor but that's not helping the cause, guys.

Nothing good can come of the Smurfs being in 3D or New York or whether the hell they ended up. I avoided everything to do with that movie like it was radioactive and wouldn't give me sweet powers, but only cause boils and internal haemorrhagingKimra wrote:Ever since seeing all those terrible ads for that terrible movie, I find the use of 'smurf' in any linguistic sense horrendous.

Police action seems to be mainly giving legitimacy to a group that otherwise might not be taken seriously, in this case.Apocalyptus wrote:The issue with the Occupy Melbourne protests is that whether one agrees with the protesters or not, they do have the right to protest and voice their opinions publicly. Now if he'd mooned Prince Phillip there'd be nothing wrong with that.
Also I see nothing wrong with the queen thing, he wasn't even physically accosting her. Sure I wouldn't do it, but that's beside the point.

It is mooning an old lady. That point is completely and utterly wrong. You don't treat old people that way, regardless of whether they are the queen of England or your foul mouthed alcoholic footy addict granny

So, (and yes it's an extreme example but you know she's the queen) if hitler had lived to be an old man we wouldn't be able to moon him? I think this thinking is foolish.

Re: This week in Australia
I probably wouldn't moon him no, but that is mainly because there would be no point. But your example is fairly useless anyway as being an extreme exception. I wouldn't put the queen of a decently peaceful nation on the same level as mass murdering hate criminal

I'm just saying, she's a political figure, even an old lady of a political figure, people are bound to make statements about and towards political figures.
But we all know I lost the argument because I mentioned hitler, so whatever.

Re: This week in Australia
But still, do you think it cool to protest by mooning in the first way? There are much classier ways to do things

Re: This week in Australia
A classy protest doesn't get on the news. Look at that, we've talked about him, he just won a victory you would have never expected him to by showing his ass.
