Maine is having its referendum to repeal gay marriage today.

Why do people from Maine want to stop gay people from getting married?

Because they want them to be happy.

I think that marriage should be reworked so that "marriage" counts as a civil union, but marriage and civil unions should only be different by what the church's political views are. Like, you can get legally married but not be catholic church married, and most people of the church cannot say you are actually married. This is a flaw to be fixed.

Remember, Mainers, repealing gay marriage is totally gay.

Yeah, that's great, except that it's the Catholic Church that doesn't want gays to be married, because marriage is a religious institution and that means that they don't want gay marriage to even exist.

It won't be gay once you can go back to the good old days of shooting someone for coming on to you instead of wanting you wife.

I think people should get over themselves. The human race isn't going to cease to breed just because a couple of people don't like the opposite gender, and I think that was the primary concern. There wont be enough catholics if we don't make them bare ten children each! Hurry breed more!

Anyway, I agree with Ahmet. Civil Union and Marriage should be the same thing. I don't see the stupid need to the distinction. You can be married under a whole lot of different religions, a ships captain can marry you, so why can't it be classed as the same thing when you undergo a 'civil union' (or can you and I'm just uneducated? It might well be the second option).

I'm not sure what the rules are in Australia. Gay Marriage is effectively non-existent though, and that's bull. Because you know what? I know a whole lot of gay guys and I want to go to more weddings! Easy solution, make it legal and Kimra can go to more parties.

Maine sucks almost as much as California. Congratulations on taking the forward thinking and shoving it up your own nether regions. It's the not gay way to behave.
