Gays have literally destroyed the institution of marriage.

In Texas. Kind of.
Remember how they banned gay marriage way back in '05? You know, "marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman" and all that. Well apparently there's a clause in there that states "This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage".
Things would be all well and good if they had left out 'or recognize' because by the wording they have pretty much made it so that they are not allowed to recognise straight marriage, because it is in fact identical to their definition of marriage. At least so says Barbara Radnofsky, a lawyer from Houston and Democratic attorney general candidate.

So in their zeal to preemptively deny the creation of civil unions and such, the people behind the bill have pretty much disbanded marriage entirely. Hooray for the difference between the letter and the intent of the law!
In conclusion: Gays have (by the sheer virtue of existing) scared bigoted lawmakers into banning all marriages, period. Glorious.
