This system is in use some places already, if I recall correctly, though I don't know where.

Even though it sounds very silly, it's quite clever.

I like the idea of that one, though. It is like a "runoff" election without having to turn out multiple times (which is why "runoff" would never work in most countries).
Though it seems like a hell of a lot of counting for the pollsters.

This is how voting is always done over here. I didn't realise we had a different system from the UK going on until now.

Fear of change is a genuine fear, it affects all people who are too stupid or too lazy to decide for themselves whether or not the change will do any good.

A lot of people.

1. There are those afraid of change (as Sahan said).
2. Those who haven't bothered to read any information on it, and thus don't know that it is better.
3. Those who don't understand it.
4. Old people (as LR said).
5. Immigrants.*

Electoral changes only occur when a) something big happens to a country and forces a major re-look, i.e. post-WW2 Germany and France, and b) the campaign for the change is REALLY well funded. The problem is that no acting government is willing to throw a significant chunk of money behind such an initiative, as the old system was what gave them power in the first place. Which puts it into the hands of lobbyists and the like, who tend to rely on sponsors, but it really isn't enough either.

Now this isn't really proven, but as we have had this fail time and again in Ontario and Canadia, and this is my understanding of why it isn't working.

*Not all, but the fact that many people come from places with much less democratic countries, they are simply content with the democracy they know. It is already better than what they had, they just don't realize that they can still have it better yet. Plus language barrier combined with #2 and #3 can be a huge issue as well.

Well I think this will be my first vote and I feel good about that being it.
