Mosques in your city?

So I bet most of you have heard that they're planning to build a mosque over the site of a building destroyed on 9/11. I'm curious about everyone else's opinion, because I have trouble understanding how this is not reasonable or sensitive to the victims of 9/11. Isn't this like saying "well that wasn't us, in fact we like New York and shit and we're pretty sorry about what some extremist assholes did"? I really can't wrap my head around criticisms and it seems like most people think it's an awful idea. Why am I the only person who is not crazy?

I can't say I understand what's wrong with it either. Honestly a lot of the arguments against the mosque strike me as being a bit sensationalist or propagating misinformation. It's as though people can't tell the difference between Muslims and terrorists.

Yes I honestly can't see how it's 'disrespectful' of the victims of 9/11 either. It does seem as Cow said, that some people are incapable of realising that Muslim does not equal terrorist.

It's not a mosque. It has a prayer area though. But seriously, it's not even a mosque. Just because hospitals have a small chapel doesn't make it a place of worship.

EDIT: ALSO, YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID "IT'S MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK FOR YOUR POST. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOD DAMNED HILARIOUS.

Yes, I believe that that was the general idea.

I think what we really need to do is build a giant sign that has a copy of the President's birth certificate there. You know, because we're not sure that he was born in the US.

I was going to say I was opposed to the idea, because I get squirmish at the thought of any new place of worsip being constructed, but this isn't a mosque. It just has a mosque inside it. Even jails have places of worship for different faiths, it's nothing to get offended about. Get yourself some credible news sources, USA!

It's depressing how many people are actually like that though.

Honestly the whole reason I posted this was 'cause I was so upset that my crazy parents actually said the equivalent of "they could do it but should they". It just doesn't seem like a response that an intelligent person could form, but hey, there are intelligent racists, too.

I have always considered myself more of a racist intellectual.

I lost the shred of respect I had for Cracked when they chose some talentless hack to win a recent scriptwriting competition instead of a clearly superior entrant.
