Move over USA...

Post by Sahan »

...Australians are the new fatties in town!

At least, that's what the news told me. Our family then had pizza to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Discuss?*

Indeed I will. This Forbes article is about a year and a half old, but I think it's safe to say that all those tiny Pacific islands (like Australia?) are still on top.

No kidding.
And he references the song mentioning vegemite (Land Down Under) by Men At Work as if the song itself was strictly about the goodness of vegemite (rather than a list of Australian stereotypes, like it is).

One thousand, one hundred and eleventh post!

Yeah. "Stereotypes" is just a inoffensive way of saying "realities". And I'm trying to not be offensive.

What, like this? (Also, apparently I forgot the song, as it isn't as full of stereotypes as I remembered. And the video is awful.)
And I didn't miss the point. The idea of vegemite is gross. Men at Work sing a song that uses the word vegemite once. Men at Work are Australian. However you left out some words, or went with stream of conciousness, and the sentence came off as "Men at Work's song makes vegemite sound gross" or even "Hey, Men at Work, good luck with singing songs about vegemite!"
Also, Colin Hay is awesome. Thank you Zach Braff for jump starting his career so I could hear some of his great solo work.

If it's a song about Vegemite you're after, the actual Vegemite Song is sung by the audience in this clipfrom an Australian TV show. A suitably comical reaction from the two Americans on the stage follows.

awesome true story. I was playing TF2 with Simon. like 3 months ago on some Aussie server. I went to say something and my american accent caused one of the guys to come back with "Hey, we don't speak Bulgarian on this server". classic.

Excellent story, well told.
