So, recently I decided that I would bootstrap myself from 'burns cereal' to 'makes pretty decent food'. Along the way, I have learned some basic recipes. However, within the past couple of days I have begun actually experimenting on my own, which brings me to the point of this post. Last night, I modified the standard cake-in-a-mug recipe into a Rainbow Cake (in a mug). This also had the unexpected side-effect of making me the number one result on google for 'rainbow cake in a mug'. Number two is an old SomethingAwful thread about cake-in-a-mug, so I feel pretty good about winning that search string.

Anyway, what bizarre food experiments have you tried?

Tuna and chocolate chips is quite nice if you put it on toast and melt cheese onto it.

If we're talking about experiments I could say I once deprived someone of food, but that not really that innovative.

I can't cook at all either (I've messed up boiling eggs (they exploded) and even boiling water). My goal is to find me a partner that can cook. Having said that I'm single so I do have to cook, apparently I cannot live off the thought of food. I don't experiment too much but i have made two meals and a drink.
1. The Mellwich;
2. Loaded Burgers and
3. Twang (tema effort)

The Mellwich was made a few years ago when all I had was BBQ sauce, ground beef and bread. Brown the beef, simmer in BBQ sauce serve on bread. It was a poor woman's Sloppy Joe. Loaded burgers is everything you want on a burger in the burger. Cheese, pickles, tomato, onion and BBQ sauce all nestled inside beef goodness. Can you see the theme?

Twang is nasty. There are no measurements in Twang and must be drank right away before things separate. Twang is: rocky road icecream, ice, 2 bananas, raspberry (or was it strawberry?) zinfedale wine, Crown Royal rye. Mix in a blender, drink and try not to throw up.

Those are things I've made, back in the days when i was a stoner (oldies will remember those days) me and my friends made a lot of nasty stuff that seemed like a good idea at the time. We once bought a can of corned beef that was so old it had dirt on the top. Not dust. Dirt. We fried that up and just looked at it, even high on weed and shrooms we couldn't eat it. Another time we made these pancake things. It had so much stuff in it. oatmeal, pancake mix, eggs, green food dye, bacon and more stuff. That was ok.

I once put some leftover milk in a pan on the stove and boiled it down to see what would happen. I was hoping to get cheese, I ended up with a rank-smelling pathetic plastic-like solid covered in solid calcium. I usually experiment with soft drink flavour combinations. Coke tastes pretty good with a little lemonade on top, and Coke and Fanta taste a bit like jellybabies.

Wolf, those burgers sound amazing. I'm going to have to try that. Now all I need is to know how to make hamburgers... What's your recipe?

As for the 'Milk + Heat = Cheese?' experiment, you were almost there. At least, according to this site. Haven't tried it myself, though.

One time I went out on the limb and combined cereal and milk in a bowl. The jury is still out on that.

Yeah, well you've already served your time. The fact that you spent it without a court-order does raise some questions about your sanity, though.

A chocolate-chip tuna melt? Can anyone else confirm this claim? I would, but I despise fish. Wolf, you said you were a stoner way back when. Did you ever experience this?

Well, I'd hardly call it an experiment, but it's a little off the beaten path and I love it.

Spicy Cheese Omelette/Omelet

Mix 2 eggs (or however many you plan on eating) with Garlic Powder, Onion Powder (the real things are too chunky, unless you like your omelets that way; for the sake of argument, you don't), Red pepper flakes, and Italian seasoning (all to taste). Add pepper jack cheese (also to taste, depending on how cheesy you like your omelet). Cook, and eat.

The Mellwich sounds great. It sounds better than a sloppy joe, in my opinion. Provided, of course, that you are using a good BBQ sauce.

As for my experimenting, I do plenty, but nothing is off the wall. I entered a chili cook-off once and put cocoa in it because I was looking for something different, and I had read that somewhere or another. It gave it an interesting earthy taste, but it isn't something I would do again (it wasn't bad, just not worth doing).
I'm a pretty decent cook, and pretty much everything I do is experimental. I don't follow recipes. I get a rough idea (maybe from a few internet recipe sites), and go with it. And I don't measure anything either. And nothing has ever really gone wrong. And if it does, it is usually that I end up making too much (like the last time I made risotto and it expanded far more than I anticipated).

See.. It'll never work out between us Wolf. We both shouldn't be allowed in the kitchen. Its not that I'm a bad cook, I'm actually pretty talented at all but a few certain styles that shall not be mentioned for they are dead to me. The problem is what I cook is ah.. for me. Normal mortals tend to find my dishes digusting, gut wrenching, and then I get disallowed from entering their kitchen (apparently it is no longer mine to have access to, even if they don't live there.). I personally thought the pancakes with dill pickles Excellent. I also see nothing wrong with my bagel, hummus, roast beef, turkey, peanut butter, relish sandwiches were. I guess the chocolate fish cake was a bit much... but it was so tasty!

I can follow a recipe and get 'norm' food, but tend to find it eh. I do however make a mean sloppy joe/pasta sauce when the mood takes me. Assuming anyone involved in eating it shares my love of onions, garlic, sausage, beef, +fridge contents of random nature. Its just all a very haphazard event if I get involved.

I have become much better at cooking though, now that I'm clean. Apparently my problem was I'd get high and just space out or leave in the middle of cooking with I guess is bad. However I'm a shy cooker and eater so I really don't cook a lot now that I have a room mate.
