Hugh Laurie's okay, but I really can't stand watching House. Really, they may as well just assume that their first diagnosis is going to be wrong.

You can also assume that every subsequent diagnosis will be wrong, and that the patient in question will either be inches from death or actually die before they figure out what is happening at the end of the episode.

Sure, the whole diagnosing patients part of the plot in House gets a bit repititive, but I think the idea is that it gradually became more and more of a side plot, the real drama was between the doctors and issues like House slowly going crazy. I didn't watch the show as regularly as some of friends, but I enjoyed the characters they created, because I haven't seen too many shows that depict those kind of characters or involve that level of dialogue between characters.

If not for the character, I don't think there would be much of a reason to watch it. I mean, who really wants to watch a show about people's lives getting improved? We're worried about who's gonna get that snatch.

The point is, they both used the same joke except ED's is funnier than Seinfeld's.

Re: I've been to Japan and stuff.
The thing is, I knew someone with lupus. Probably the only serious disease that has afflicted someone very close to me.
I guess that's not entirely true, as two of my elderly relatives have had milder cancers (breast and colon), and my dad has had regular bouts of cellulitis. But with the former they received prompt treatment and early detection due to their age, and while cellulitis can be serious, my dad has had it enough that he recognizes the symptoms very early and is able to nip it quick with a hospital visit and antibiotics.
A friend's mom recently died of MS, but I haven't seen the friend in a few years, and her mom since eighth grade or sommat.

I'm a huge fan of House, and it's true that the characters are far more compelling than the medical aspects. They do mix it up from time to time with multiple patients and whatnot, but for the most part the medical stuff is formulaic. I also happen to own a t-shirt with Hugh Laurie's face and "It's Lupus" on it.

House is apparently the most watched show on the planet.
Apparently around 1 billion people watch it.

Re: I've been to Japan and stuff.
It is formulaic, but the characters make up for it. Plus, they've actually mixed it up in recent seasons, with alternate stresses on the team and House. I mean, the reason I very seldom watch CSI anymore is because I got tired of watching the same thing again and again.
I can't really go back and watch the first two seasons of House because of this reason. After seeing those seasons three times each, I'm pretty much done with it. There was a time that I thought I might buy the series on DVD, though I'm not sure. I plan on watching seasons 3 and 4 again before watching 5. Which I was going to do, but then found out my new computer arrived, and I will be taken up with that for a while.
