For some reason it's always really awkward to talk with people online.

What? Talking to people you've never met but have many preconceived notions about, who in turn already have opinions about you formed? I can't see how this would be awkward.

During my 18 hours of sleep last night, I failed to listen in like a stalker. I will try harder next time... maybe. 18 hours of sleep is pretty awesome. Having been awake for close to four hours now, I think I will have another nap. Cheers!

SMBC Skypefest 09 was actually a success and didn't feel that awkward at all after a bit.
Doin' podcasts before they were cool.

Really? I am almost never free at that time on a Sunday. Ah well.

My opinion on the Skype Chats:

1) There were too many people. You couldn't hear/understand enough of what was going on, except for whoever spoke the loudest/longest (namely, Frostbite). (I imagine this got better as more of left. It probably improved the conversation.)

2) It was hard to connect voices with people speaking - mostly because of the too many people thing, though - it was difficult to keep track of who was lighting up as they spoke, especially with people speaking over each other. Some, that didn't matter for, however, like Cirtur, 'cause he's the British one, or Rainbow, 'cause she's the one who sounds eight.

3) Some of you sound like nice, normal, happy people. Some of you sound like nerds. And some of you sound like serial killers. ...I'll let you decide which category you best belong in.

4) It was kind of cool to put a voice to a poster. But, this would have been much less awkward if it involved an smbc-together. You know, in person. If all of us weren't socially awkward, lazy, agoraphobic internet dwellers than we could almost consider one day trying to plan it.
If we weren't such good friends, I'd wish you were dead.

Is this an established members only thing? Or can random creepy people like me lurk and/or join in for next week? Not sure what time 9pm EDT is equivalent to in Melbourne time though...

I wonder about the wisdom of my decision to not have a few one on one conversations with people before going into the big chat last night, especially since it was my first experience with something like that, but all in all I thought it went alright. I suspect too that it will get better the more we do this.

Also I don't see why you wouldn't be welcome Apocalyptus. Just post your skype name before the next scheduled chat.

I think it was a bit strange, because in a big meet-up we wouldn't be standing in a big circle having one conversation.

Yeah. I would prefer future conversations to either be like groups of four or five people, or to be in person (so, then, it would only be four or five people talking together, anyhow, at max).

But, it sounds like lots of people had fun. If you all keep doing it as one big group, I hope you enjoy it. :)

Like someone said, if we ever really somehow met up, we'd all bring our laptops and just chat over them anyways.

The actual honest reason why that wouldn't work is money. It's impossible to get everyone in one place because, aside from us, nobody has any money at all. Also I won't spend any of mine.

*shrugs*

Other forums I've been on, people have actually managed to meet up. I think the desire is just not as great as the hassle/expense for people here. I don't know many of you, personally - like your personal lives. It's mostly just jokes - not closeness. I think that's the difference.
If we weren't such good friends, I'd wish you were dead.
