What do you hate most about Royal Mail?

I'll start off. They decide to go on strike because the government is accusing them of being inefficient.

And I have NEVER ever got any mail from them on time. Probably has something to do with the fact that I don't usually receive mail from them, but even so, it's quite shameful.

Since when is chemistry not a science?

They've been so off the ball that I don't even know who they are.

They have the audacity to call themselves royalty. Who gave them a crown, ha?

One of their staff once stole a package that was being delivered to me.

I try to avoid them whenever I possibly can, but sadly this was being sent internationally, so they picked it up for the last leg of its journey. 2 weeks of travel all over the world, to then be "lost" by British Mail.

And how do I know it was stolen? It's a bit of a guess, really. But the Royal Mail van came and parked itself outside my house the first day it was supposed to be delivered, and the gentleman immediately dropped a "you weren't in" notification through the door then hot-tailed it back into the van and left pronto. I was looking directly at the front door as he did this. On the second occasion (the "re-delivery"), the van came and parked itself in the same spot. It was raining heavily. 2 minutes passed, and without anyone getting out, it drove off, and they claimed it had been delivered. (In retrospect, I should have gone out to the van as soon as I saw it arrive, but it's not the usual way of things and I didn't want to seem pushy.)

The senior management weren't especially helpful. They acknowledged that the package might have been stolen, but was probably just lost, and they had no intention of contacting the police about the possible theft. When it was made clear that option was still open to me, they got a little more cooperative, but not to the point of offering anything more than a "these things happen, file for a claim".

The package was for a collectable that I was ordering for a friend. It was prop money. No real surprise why it went missing.

Thankfully, I'd already taken the precaution of insuring the package, and the people I ordered it from had another (though this was a very limited quantity deal). They couldn't send the package any other way than the last time, so it was once more a chance. This time when the van parked outside the house, I immediately opened the door, went over and stared in at the delivery person until the package was handed over. I wasn't rude, but I wanted to make it clear I was aware of the arrival.

This is the experience that most stands out in my mind, but I've had so many things "lost" by British Mail that I've honestly lost count. This includes having one postman who took to dumping letters in a river instead of delivering them (it made the local paper!) which affected hundreds of people in the area and Royal Mail made clear their policy of not compensating, regardless of how substandard they are.

I think it's particularly showing that you can opt to pay more to make sure your letter arrives. Surely, this should be an expectation if you decide to use the service at all? It's not like you'd happily pay for food in a restaurant, then be asked to leave before a single bite because there was no food. Or other, better analogies.

Sorry, went for the food thing because I'm hungry. I'm hungry because I've been trying to catch up with the forum all day. I've been trying to catch up with the forum all day because I wasn't in rehab, but you'll never get the truth out of me, copper!

I'm guessing that was too long, and you didn't read it. Or you're saying that being outsmarted is roughly the equivalent of when someone mugs you.

I'm gonna take this opportunity to badmouth Australia Post. Whom are just as special (it seems) as Royal Mail.

My cousin sent himself a Camera. Because... I don't remember why but it was the only way to get it where he needed it. He made the fool mistake of packaging it at the post office. He paid EXTRA money to insure it. He sent it. It never arrived. It never even got logged as leaving the post office he sent it from, BUT it was in the system.

What came of this? Nothing. The $1,000 camera, that had extra insurance was gone, and Aust.Post (after much hassling and prodding) conceded to pay up and grand total of $150. What was the point of the extra insurance if it wasn't even going to cover the cost of the item? Complete crap I tell you. Bollocks.

So ends my tale.

The delivering mail part, or the mugging people part?
Police said they spent some time working out if they could charge the man with being armed with a weapon, as technically he was armed with part of a fish.

You could try both, but I think delivering mail requires a civil service test.

I don't know mugging can be hard. What if people cry? I'd find it difficult to take the money then.
