Hospital rush?
I thought Australia had socialized health care...*

*I don't actually know that for a fact, but I figured most of the colonies went this way.
*Alternate joke for the Americans: Does your HMO cover rushing to the hospital?**
** Mediocre topical humour FTW.

I don't think socialised health care means that hospitals magically appear when you need them, unless you meant that as a joke about hospital waiting periods, and the other commentary just threw me off, in which case it is actually a Hospital-Premises Rush.

And it's not actually called 'socialised healthcare' I don't think...

The preferred term is "Glorious People's Republican Health Care System".

What are you talking about Oldrac? We aren't some sort of secret underground communist state or anything...

Yeah, if they were a communist state they'd had a big red rock or something.

This. Kind of. I know in Canadia we've had problems with ambulances being turned away from one hospital ER because they were just too busy, and thus having to speed off to another.
And in regards to my commentary on America, it was a joke that you would have to pay extra (or your HMO would) for the ambulance to exceed the speed limit.
And now the joke is dead. Which is fine. It was mediocre to begin with.

Public hospitals here do very well to get patients into an emergency ward when the need arises, it's trying to get in during a non-emergency situation that can result in very long waits.

Obviously it depends on what sort of non-emergency situation, but that is the problem itself. People go in for sniffles and such, clog up the ER with patients, and then the real emergencies arriving in ambulances get re-routed to other, less crowded ERs. I haven't heard much of this in Canadia in a while, but back in the late 90s to early 00s it was a significant issue, at least in the Toronto area.

Even without socialized health care, it can take like 2 hours in a hospital waiting room before you're seen. This is why I feel if we already have long waits, why not have socialized medicine too?

Instead of waiting for treatment, we wait until the insurance companies realize we aren't going to die and they just cave in.
