Wow, great idea. Use my ashes in a garden, and have my friends consume the vegetables/fruits grown. Awesome.

Re: Our Final Goodbyes
If you're going for compost, it's better to just toss the corpse in there rather than reducing it to ash first. In fact, Heinlein touches on this briefly in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress when talking about just how much you need to recycle your resources in a semi-closed ecosystem.
Of course, there's also the option of cutting out the composting middleman and just having your friends and family eat your corpse. Again, Heinlein talks about this in Stranger in a Strange Land when discussing various cultural taboos and rituals.
In summation, I am totally queer for Heinlein. Who had his body cremated and sprinkled in the Pacific ocean.

Why don't you go swim in the pacific ocean, then? It'd be just like having sex with Heinlein.

Well, the waves are 20 feet high, the water's 8°, the undertow is brutal, and the water's full of sharks*, so it does take a brave, skilled man** to swim in it. At most beaches there are signs warning "UNDERTOW! People swimming and wading here have drowned" in Chinese, Spanish, and Russian.
*Maybe.
**I may or may not be these things.

Yes it does. Works really well. So does sawdust. You can't use it on it's own, but it does have beneficial effects on the soil. It does depend on what your trying to grow however.Euclidthegreek wrote:I don't think ashes work as compost.
There are patchs in the Amazon forest that used to have villages on it, and they used burning as part of their..... no wait I'm not going on a ramble about this. Ash works as a compost component.
