Yes, I have heard about the especially fertile soils in the Amazon near ancient villages, and yes, ash from burning compostable material is actually good for the soil.

Buddhists tend to cremate bodies too, and I don't think they keep the ashes either. The impermanence of the human body is something that is taught to Buddhist children at a very early age, and trying to hold onto memories of the deceased is considered as hampering their journey into the next life. Doesn't stop some people bawling their eyes out at the funeral, though.

I don't think ashes work as compost.

Yes it does. Works really well. So does sawdust. You can't use it on it's own, but it does have beneficial effects on the soil. It does depend on what your trying to grow however.

There are patchs in the Amazon forest that used to have villages on it, and they used burning as part of their..... no wait I'm not going on a ramble about this. Ash works as a compost component.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that too. I didn't know if it was good as compost, persay, but I do know that it is a positive to the soil/growth in one way or another. It is why moderate forest/grass fires are actually good for the ecosystem.

It's because they contain Potassium. In fact, the word Potassium comes from potash, an early fertilizer made from ashes.

I know I'm right because where I throw the ashs from all those dead people I cremate the fireplace the grass is extra tall and extra happy.

Speaking of which, Futurama is finally coming back on television at the end of them month here. I am the excited one.

No, I'm pretty sure it promised they were new episodes, otherwise it would have been less excitement and more comfort in knowing there was something watchable on the TV again.
