From what I know about it, delirium is a real thing, whereas excited delirium is totally made up. Well of course some people back it, but in general I can't really believe in it whatsoever. It's just an excuse for the police to abuse their power.

The problem is that many cops don't want to put themselves in harms way such as physical restraint might cause. So tasers are a great way around that.
But, yeah, it should only be used in rare circumstances where physical restraint is very dangerous.

What if it looks like fun to taser someone?

Essentially. You wouldn't use it in any situation where you'd go, "a gun might be excessive force."

I think I understand what you said there. I think an emphasis on 'any' is the tone you meant. Because reading it another way would seem silly.
What I didn't say in that post but considered, was that tasers can be appropriate where physical restraint is necessary but you are dealing with an unarmed but very dangerous and volatile person.

Hmm, I see. I guess I didn't really think through what I said before. I guess the idea is, "don't use a taser unless necessary." But then all we're really saying is "no excessive force" which is what cops should already know, and are notoriously bad at following.
