Wasabi

Does anyone know of any negative side effects of eating roughly 2-3 tablespoons of wasabi by itself? I did so earlier to clear up the stuffy nose I have (it worked after much crying) roughly 10 minutes ago and I'd kind of like to know if I'm going to regret it later...

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference but it was wasabi from a tube, roughly half of it:

I wasn't aware of the taboo. Duly noted.

It's a chemical irritant so it might make your stomach sick or going to the bathroom unpleasant. Other than that I don't know of any serious side effects. Horseradish apparently has diuretic properties, too, so don't be surprised if that happens. Most likely if that was really too much it would've made you throw up already, but if you're concerned you might want to call poison control instead of an internet forum (turns out I'm not really a doctor).

I ate about a mouthful of wasabi once by itself.* My stomach was a little upset about twenty minutes later, otherwise I was fine. I'm pretty sure wasabi isn't dangerous.

*It was a dare. Shut up!

I'm not particularly concerned, otherwise I would have called poison control, to tell the truth I was looking for first hand testimonial from people like smiley_cow who have tried it themselves lol

That seems like a pretty lousy way to get medical advice.

Again, if I had any real concerns I would have called poison control. It may be a lousy way of getting medical advice but it is a fairly convenient and easy way of getting advice from people with first-hand experience. It's the next day and I'm not dead, so I'm happy.

I once ate an onion whole on a dare.
Good times.

I dunno you sounded concerned. You sounded less like "yeah I ate a bunch of wasabi fuckahs!" and more like "oh god can someone tell me if I am going to die?"

At the time of the first post I felt vaguely nauseous and had just finished cramming for a test for the past 3 hours or so, so I wasn't exactly in the "yeah I ate a bunch of wasabi fuckahs!" mood, but closer to the "well, life is pretty crappy right now, anyone know if I just made it worse?" state of mind.

Wasabi? That reminds me of the time that I was in Japan. Oh wait, that's presently happening.

Why don't you start a thread about that?

Oh wait you have!

One time I ate some food on a dare. That time was always.

You're lucky to have such wacky, thrill-seeking friends, or you'd probably die of starvation.

Sometimes I dare myself to eat all of the food at a party, and then everyone gets kind of upset for some reason.

My friends were having a contest to see who could eat the most spicy crisps and then I ate all of them.

I win!
