Drakken's First Impressions: Nintendo DSi.

Hello, I'm Drakken, and you are you.

Today's topic is Nintendo's newest incarnation of their popular portable gaming device, the DSi (yes, I am spelling it correctly.)

Before I get into the nitty gritty, let's not forget that there have already been 2 versions of the DS beforehand, the DS lite and what I affectionately call the DS Phat. Why Nintendo thought a new rehash was nessecary is beyond me.
It doesnt even look that differant. it's essencially a DS lite with 2 cameras (one on the front of the console, the other on the inside, to solve the problem of awkward camera angles.), better wi-fi capabilities, and a download channel much like the wii with it's highly successful virtual console channel. I am personally disappointed that they removed the GBA slot, because now not only do you need a seperate console for GBA games, you also have no slot for rumble packs or the guitar hero app.

Now, what are the specs on the console? Here is some delicious copypasta from wikipedia:
CPUs: The main CPU is an ARM processor clocked at 133 MHz.
RAM: 16 MB of RAM (four times more than previous models)
Storage: 256 MB of internal Flash memory with an SD/SDHC card expansion slot
Wireless: 802.11 internal wireless connectivity

There is also a list of games and applications for the hardware listed over hnaw :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DS ... plications

overall, it seems like an okay upgrade, but why Nintendo doesnt save this for a brand new console baffles me.
I doubt that I will end up buying one. Im still happy with my ds lite.
but a ds that can take on the Iphone does seem like an interesting concept.

thats all for now.
happy gaming!

You forgot the spec that it costs 170+ dollars. I am a sad gamer.

I'm simply not much for portable systems, which kind of pisses me off, 'cause I'm not willing to pay $so-and-so just to play Castlevania at home. See, they're quality games, but I don't want to carry a hunk of conspicuous plastic with me on the subway (not that people actually try to steal from me, but it bothers me the same). Aslo I get motion sickness, so if I do anything I resign myself to struggling to read. There's no DS 'player' or anything out there, right? (or did anyone make an emu yet?)

Actually, they did. My brother has played Pokemon on it. It has 2 screens and everything.

How do they do the touch? Mouse?

Yup. It's pretty freakin' sweet if I do say so myself. Playing Pokemon ranger (where you capture them by drawing circles around them really fast) is quite fun with a mouse.

My computer is made of animals, will that change my experience of the emu*?

*Obviously I mean emulator, not emu**

**I think my screen is part emu.

Any wi-fi support?

For the emulator? I doubt it.

the emulators are crap. I got rid of em. The game engine is hard to translate, seeing as how it has 3d in some of the games.
To be honest, DSi isn't worth it. The ds is worth it, although I didn't get it.

You dishonor me cheez.wiz! What do you believe me to be in error about? EMulator=bad, ds=good, or both?
Or neither, and you simply wish to mock me? I have a bunch of good memories with the ds, and to be honest, ds games aren't good enough for me to spend time on the computer playing it.

Clearly, you have missed Cheez's subtle joke. *Makes woosh noise*

Or...you're being coy and playing it off as a DS joke. I have my doubts.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, or not.
