The Elder Scrolls

Post by FengharTheNord »

Anyone want to nerd out with me over these games, particularly Oblivion and Morrowind, because I never played the arena ones?

I personally think Morrowind was significantly better than Oblivion in terms of fun-ness, replayability, and storyline. Of course, Oblivion tops morrowind in graphics and, in some areas, gameplay- such as the fighting mechanics.

What are your thoughts on these two very epic games?

I never got too far in them. Every time I started to play either, some other game came up and I wound up ignoring them. I have both for Xbox and PC. You would think after blowing over around 200$ I would play them..

I played Oblivion, but it was just so boring. The whole giant world sham never rubbed off on me, and I ended up cheating just because I was horrendously bored, and not involved in the storyline at all. It was fun jumping up mountains in one leap for a while, but that gets old pretty quickly. Also jumping over obstacles designed to keep you out of areas. Good times. Also jumping off the top of the mountains, and landing about 5 minutes later. Also jumping.

I guess I enjoyed the hax jumping section of the game?

Wow. Shame on you for the hax. Although I saw a video where comeone created a pokeball thing. That was funny.

The game is worth the money if you're into that type of game. If you're pulling into it you'll have lots of fun. I didn't buy it, but my friend had it and it's addictive.

Oh I didn't pay for it, so, I didn't feel guilty about cheating. I'd feel guilty if I was ruining the game, or cheating myself of enjoyment. With a game like Bioshock, I couldn't comprehend cheating, but I felt no compunction with Oblivion. I needed enjoyment, and I wasn't getting any the traditional way. Anyway I'd argue that it's not worth the money, and direct you to a nice review.

Oh, there's no way in hell I'd spring for half the price of it. If that game is your thing, it is the only game you'll need to play for a while. The fact it lasts so long is just awesome to me, honestly.

I was a gigantic fan of Morrowind so when Oblivion came out I got really into only to soon realize that it is very easy to beat every single quest in that game, especially the main storyline quest which is much less than the estimated 20 hours of gameplay that they slapped on in the previews.

I was also really frustrated with the fact that they took out things like spears and levitation. But, the whole "Alive-ness" of it was fun and so was the massive amount of modding that was done to it on the PC.

Still, Morrowind will always be better in my opinion. It was the kinda game that I keep creating more and more new characters and not get tired of the beginner quests, unlike Oblivion where trudging through that stupid dungeon was driving me nuts so I just made save before the exit where I would create all my new characters.

I just play Fallout 3.

It's essentially exactly the same as Oblivion in terms of the gameplay and huge open-ended world, because it's by the same guys and developed with the same physics engine and software (I believe.)

but Oblivion is better because it has guns. and mutants.

and sometimes the mutants have guns.

D'oh!

Nothing's worse than trying to make a point only to misspeak and send the whole thing to hell.

I shall not edit the original post, leaving it as a monument to my folly.

Psssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah.

The original Fallouts and Morrowind trump both Oblivion and Fallout 3.

But then again I don't really consider Fallout 1 & 2 comparable to Fallout 3 because they are totally different.

Nonetheless, I love 'em all.

The very first fallout, which was called wasteland, was the best of them all. 8 bit semi animated RGB pictures with text actions FTW! I am gunna dig that up and play it now.

Ohhhhhhhh

I thought wasteland was like a pen and paper type deal!

Alas, I guess I'll just have to settle for the fallout tactics pen and paper version.

No...the very first Fallout was, get this, Fallout. The original Fallout was heavily based upon that, but you can't call that the original Fallout.
