Oh, and I thought of a few more. Though it really depends on your definition of horror.

I am a guilty-pleasure fan of the movie Deep Blue Sea. More of a thriller, but yeah. And then of course a good portion of M. Night's movies, but again, I wouldn't really call them horror, persay.
And I really quite enjoyed 28 Days Later, though it didn't really scare me.
Also, Shaun of the Dead is a great movie, regardless if it counts.

28 days later is my favorite "zombie" movie ever. liek omg social commentary!

I recommend Event Horizon. Its pretty sweet and somewhat scary, if only for the man shoving his own fist down his throat.

I was kind of disappointed with it. I felt like other movies have done a similar concept but with better results. Event Horizon was just too much about shock-value.
The movies who did it better? Sphere, for one. Fantastic book, and the movie diverges a fair bit, but it is still very good. And Solaris also had a similar idea, though it was more on the positive drama side of things, with some interesting commentary on the nature of memory.

I really liked the Grudge. Not the American version but the original, it was far creeper than the re-make.

That tends to be the case with all of the Japanese to American horror movies that came out.

If I remember right the Japanese Grudge had that reaaally surreal, ultra-creepy ending that I won't mention in case anyone hasn't seen it.

I have much love for 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

(Although, during 28 Weeks Later, a creepy boy who I thought I was just friends with tried to make out with me. Also, he had a foot fetish. It is not a pleasant memory.)
If we weren't such good friends, I'd wish you were dead.

Whatever you do, don't see the Uninvited. It is a horror movie without the horror. Barely any suspense. And a Sixth Sense ending.

Strangers was ruined for me by a quarter of the cinema screaming loudly whenever they spotted one, making me laugh.

Personally I think the best horror movies/slasher films are the ones done in sixty seconds by bunnies.

YES.

Strangers really creeped me out. Mainly because I had to go back to my then empty house...alone . :\

Plus it had a Joanna Newsom song in the movie which really surprised/delighted me.

I love Joanna Newsom. I think I saw Silent Hill. It was some awesome as shit movie based off a videogame. I haven't really seen many horror movies, but the ones I have seen are pretty laughable. Saw is just retarded. It's not remotely scary, just gory. Prom Night is straight up terrible. It's depressing at best, and never frightening. I saw the Others, which hardly qualifies as horror, not that it wasn't good. I've probably seen other stuff, but I can't remember. Someone should throw some good title my way.

I've heard good things about Carrie. Haven't seen it myself though.

Dead alive.

Probably the goriest movie i've seen. Ever. My impressions were that it's so bad that it's good, then bad again, then good again, then bad, then horrible, then good, and then completely made of awesome and gore. In the end, i'd say it's easily one of the best completely gory, low budget but filled with special effects, old horror movie i've ever seen.
