I've never gotten malicious software from downloading music. Just sayin'.

What often happens with programs like Limewire is that there are viruses that are programmed to have the same name as whatever you searched for. So you download a virus, thinking it's a song. Of course after scanning everything I downloaded I evetually became smart enough to pick out which ones were viruses just by looking (file size, bitrate etc.), yet still so many people seem to download this stuff without ever realising.

I like Limewire for individual song downloads. Being a cover fiend, I need that.

Well, I always download everything, but if does happen to be missing a song, I just find it in another collection. Or, if the youtube quality is good enough, I rip the youtube video and convert it to mp3.

Yeah, I'll probably go pretty nuts on the music collecting once I get my computer. Ripping and "what you hear" recording will be my friend for a lot of the stuff.
