Nintendo's got things covered. They have Zelda as their hack n' slash, metroid as their shooter, pokemon as their rpg, brawl as their fighter, and mario as their platformer. I totally accept that the wii is essential failure, but Nintendo's games (when they put effort into it) have much more substance than many other games that are released.

Nintendo almost went under with the N64 and Gamecube even though the games were so highly acclaimed to their fans. They found a way to make money and they're doing it. They're all just companies, so who cares about you if you don't look out for them?

Real games for the wii would be nice though.

I wish there were some, or that the controls were actually semi-sensitive on the motion sensor. I guess if I was more willing to sell myself into animal crossing I'd like it more.

Also consoles > PC for game design. Its a market where you have a set knowledge about what your consumers are using to run your game. A PC you have to deal with variable stats, so you end up with ideal then manageable then not going to happen. If your going for the PS3 or Xbox 360 its a set amount, you know everyone who'll play or buy your game has a system that can run it exactly the same as any other consumer. Means you can max out the stats without having to worry about alienating potential market shares.

Although RTS's on consoles just don't work, I remember Starcraft for the n64. It was painful, yet prettier then the PC version.

I remember when the wii was going to be the future of all games. Except shaking it side to side and shaking it up and down is exactly the same.

Same thing with women! OOOOOh burn.
A Zelda Wii title is in the making, making better use of the aiming controls. The reason the controls are so under utilized is because the third party companies (if given the chance) would leak nintendo's technology a nd software to the world. Oh well. Still, Nintendo's fanbase doesn't look out for nintendo, so oh well.

With PC games, I don't have ideal. MY old computer couldn't run anything "recent" and it was only 3 years old at the time. PC games can be enjoyable, but porn is a better investment of my time. Not to mention I need to pay money first for the software, and money to keep playing. I hate that and I'm never going PC gaming for real because of that.

I have Red Faction 2 for the PS2, and I loved that game (you could destroy shit in this one too). I wish I could play 3.

I'm thinking of buying a Nintendo DS any opinions on it's worth?

The DS has much more playablility than the Wii. Tons of games that might be worth your while, although the release dates have been scattered.
Do some search on the games you want, but the DS Lite is your best bet. The DSi doesn't have a slot for older games, slightly smaller, can download and has a camera, but forget that crap and buy the DS Lite in the best condition you can find. You don't need the camera, if you become interested in an older classic ADvanced game you can't play on the DSi, and screw the downloading.

Hey that was surprisingly helpful. Thanks heaps. Things are on sale right now, so I might buy it in a few days. I'm thinking of buying the 'Japanese Coach' game, and maybe some real games as well. It is my aim to actually learn Japanese some day and to play games a lot.

The japanese coach game is actually pretty solid as a language learning system. The games it has actually encourage vocabulary building And grammar/structure knowledge. Comes with a dictionary to do quickly translations too. If your not already playing older game boy advance titles its probably not going to matter to you if you have the light or DSi, not like new ones are coming out exactly. Plus the download options can make it appealing on a lot of levels. Lite will be cheaper though. The DS is a far superior system to the PSP in my mind, more and a better diversity of games being a large plus. All the PSP really has going for it is Lumines and the ability to watch movies, like you know, your ipod or tv could for you.

See Ahmet I'd be willing to believe it was "Fear of 3rd company theft" that prevented good games for the Wii, but even Nintendo's in house developments have been lacking on it. The controls are extremely sloppy and don't allow for any high level of precision. At least partially to make the system more appealing to children or the elderly. You can spot conspiracies until the day is blue, but they still dropped the ball there.

Exactly, and then only if you make drastic huge movements no trying to be exact, it cannot be done.

Meh. I'm gonna go to town and buy one now. Yay for affirmative action (or action of any kind).

@ Kimra: When a woman talks about going to town and getting action while also discussing video games, it gives me a boner.

@ Frostbite: DAMN!

Now the proud owner of a lime green Nintendo DS lite, and some games. I will regret impulse purchase when I see my bank statement tomorrow. For now I am feeling giddy and happy.
