Lano and Woodley

Post by Tundra »

Totally a shot in the dark, but I don't suppose anyone here likes Lano and Woodley, the Australian comedy duo? (Who went solo in 2006, because they'd been together for 20 years and wanted to do other stuff).
They had a tv series (typical British style 13 episodes) that they wrote themselves, they did live shows, appeared on various things together, wrote a book that now regularly sells for over $300 because there were only 1000 printed, and they have a cd.
They're rather slapstick.

Their characters on the show were based on them, and had the same names as them. (Colin Lane and Frank Woodley). But they of course were far more slapstick and exaggerated and stupid (in a funny way). At the start of each episode, they'd be fired.

The characters of them in the show were these two guys in their late 20s, who'd lived together for 10 years, and basically were rather hopeless, never had girlfriends, and did everything together though also drove each other crazy half the time.

The themesong was really really awesome, and it really showed the themes in the show, their personalities and their friendship too.

Together:
I got a feeling
Got a bit of an inkling
This is gonna be...
One of those days.

Col: This is a show oh oh
All about me!
Frank: And me!
Col: And all the things I do oo oo
And all that I see
Frank: And also what I see
Together: I got a feeling
Got a bit of an inkling
As long as we're together
It'll be okay!

I really like them, I think the characters are cute. Some people find them annoying, but yeah, they're loud and sometimes you want to scream at them, but it's still so funny!

Also, they wrote the whole thing themselves, yes, they're low budget, and they also do most of their own stunts. Frank in particular is very acrobatic.

(Stop discussing Australian stuff, I don't think too many people here get us, and we like to pretend we're normal).

I never got too see much of the duo together, but Woodley I think makes occasional TV appearances which are always great. I wish there were more comedians out there who attempted to be refined with their humour, everyone seems to either be weird or obscene, not necessarily bad, but there are just too many of them. Stephen K Amos I quite like, if only for the posh British accent he has and his suprisingly good understanding of Australia.

chh, 'normal'. I'm normal. Just Australian!
I refuse to yield to cultural imperialism on the internet. :P I'll just try to 'convert' people to watching weird Australian stuff on youtube!

Col was on Thank God You're Here on Wednesday night and he was totally awesome at it.

There are whole episodes on youtube right now which is awesome!

I think I like that they're... well. Very 'traditional' in their duo/slapstick humour. They said that their inspiration were people like Laurel and Hardy, and it sort of shows! But there's also something quite Australian about them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtHQOGX3eNE

They're also extremely quoteable.

Flight of the Conchords has turned me against Australia. Even though I know it is satire.

You mean how the Flight of the Conchords guys hated Australians/kept being mistaken for Australians/were turned down for Australians in a couple of episodes? (Just checking you know they're kiwi)

They're New Zealanders and the Australians were very horrible to them in that show.

I actually can't remember that. I remember people being mean to them because they thought they were Australians, and people turning them down because they weren't Australians...
And an Australian boyfriend... I can't remember if he was mean or just arrogant.
Maybe I missed an episode.

The newest series where Jermaine gets an Australian girlfriend. The funniest bit is where she describes how her grandparents met.

"My great-granny was a whore and was transported down under. My great-grandpa met her in the same work camp, I say met, he raped here, and then they got married."
