Re: Movies That Will Probably Never Be Made
Plot: Two Members of an internet forum express their distaste for the redundancy and predictability of romantic comedies. Upon a chance meeting IRL, they hit it off, not knowing they are both members of the same forum. Various cliche things happen to them, couple splits only to be reunited by the forum they visit after one relates the story to the board.

It's going to begin with someone giving a serious look to a computer monitor and typing vigorously while a voice-over goes "hello fellow forum-goers, I have some news..." And then the whole story will be the narrator typing away while the scenes that he is describing happen. It'll be brilliant.Edminster wrote:Plot: Two Members of an internet forum express their distaste for the redundancy and predictability of romantic comedies. Meg Ryan will star in it. Possibly alongside Tom Hanks.

As someone said, often the journey is also pretty standard. As are the characters. I mean, with slight variations, the characters all stem from just a couple of archetypes. Or else you wouldn't have the availability of the journey that leads to the same ending.Cirtur wrote:The whole beauty of romantic comedy is that the ending is predetermined. It is the journey that shows us who the characters are.
The hooker with the heart of gold has to actually be looking for that certain man to sweep her off her feet.
The insufferable jackass needs to have a soft enough core to have the girl change him and make him a better man.
Because if they remained stauchly entrenched in their previous identities there won't be the happy ending. Instead it would be like real life. No one wants to see that.

The best romantic comedy ever, by far, is Shaun of the Dead.

I like that. Doesn't fit stereotyped classifications at all, but you aren't wrong.Frostbite wrote:The best romantic comedy ever, by far, is Shaun of the Dead.
I can't really think of a better example of a movie that is ultimately all about the development of a relationship but completely breaks the mold.
The characters are pretty standard, and even the progression is somewhat familiar, but the setting and basis are so wonderfully off the mark of a standard rom-com.

Well, Pirates of the Caribbean is totally an awesome romantic comedy if you find it funny.

Best Romantic Comedy: Audition
to quote from wikipedia:
Also, "Cannibal Holocaust" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibal_Holocaust)
to quote from wikipedia:
AND THEN...Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi), a middle-aged widower who lost his wife to an illness seven years prior, is urged by his 17-year-old son, Shigehiko (Tetsu Sawaki), to begin dating women again. Shigehiko is somewhat doubtful of his father's love life, but plans to move out when he finishes school and does not want his father to be alone. Aoyama's friend and colleague, Yoshikawa (Jun Kunimura), a film producer, devises a plan to hold a mock-audition, in which young, beautiful women would audition for the "part" of Aoyama's new wife, under the impression that they are auditioning for a new film, but actually so Aoyama can marry one of the finalist contestants...
AND THEN...he goes to the bar where Asami used to work and someone tells him that it has been closed for a year because the woman who was in charge, the wife of a record producer, was found dismembered. When the police put her body back together, they found 3 extra fingers, one ear, and one tongue...
THE END!He crawls naked out of the bag, sticks his face in the bowl of vomit, and hungrily consumes it.
