I gave up on that game when I hit the chaingun boss in the face with two missiles and all of my grenades, and he still walked up and punched me to death.

I'll look into that, but I don't have any of the DLC and I'm almost done the game now. I know if you have the explosives DLC the third boss is supposedly easier. I'm stuck on him now because I was a moron and got my chip 'fixed' so I can't use any augs during the fight. If I hadn't done that, I could apparently just one shot him with a take-down while he is jumping over a wall. But I'm really not up for redoing 10 hours of game play or so to avoid that. So right now I'm planning to go back through the area and collect some better weapons or just shoot and scoot and save each time I get lucky. Cheesy, but screw it. Apparently there is an easy way to take him down with frag mines or grenades if I can find some. I've disabled all but two guards on the level he is at the end at, so I have free run of the place.

I'm guessing you mean the first boss (Barrett) who has two mini-guns. He took me forever. I got him with a couple of the yellow gas barrels and then got lucky when a blindly thrown frag grenade went off right next to his head. I don't know if grenades can count as a head shot, but I suspect that is what happened. The second one was a lot easier because you can stun lock her with the stun gun and then just headshot the crap out of her. Since she tends to charge right at you, she was easy to hit with the stun gun.

Banished looks like a child of KSP and Sim City. Once the price drops a little I might try it out.

The game's main goal is survival, against disease, harsh winters, starvation, etc. There's a huge amount of realism - overfishing or over hunting will lead to local fish/deer extinctions, wandering vagabonds and traders can bring diseases with them, chopping down too many trees to stay warm during the winter reduces the deer population and the ability to find natural medicines, let the population get out of hand and they'll all starve, etc. Definite potential for lots of grimly humorous failures.

Banished is Dwarf Fortress for people without imagination.

On an unrelated topic I'm playing three different versions of Final Fantasy VII right now. At home on my PS3 I'm playing the original PS1 version, of which I'm at Gongaga on disc 1, having just grabbed Aeris' 4th limit break. I'm pondering going for Cloud's Omnislash, but it's a lot cheaper on disc 2, so I might wait. On my work laptop I'm faffing around with the modded version (which is being a bit of a pillock and refusing to load now), and I'm also playing about a little with the Steam version, mainly because I like the fancy upscaled graphics (although the backgrounds still retain their pix-elated low-res 19" NTSC SCART TV from 1991 look, which isn't fun)

I'm watching a let's play of it at the moment, and it looks like the hilariously catastrophic failures are a slow burn sort of thing. It looks like a nice, easygoing sort of sim I'm interested in though so I too am waiting for the price to drop.

Did my research, now I want to play this.

I love the graphics. Beautiful. And they say one guy developed it mostly himself?

Banished is only $20 on Steam. I don't know if that is full retail, but it is pretty cheap already. I almost got it last night but got all the expansions for Civ V because I'm bored of everything else. It looks like the minecraft server I play on is going to reset the map again for no good reason, so I've lost all motivation there. I'm still sitting at the final grind on FFVII to get all the huge materia and what not, and I'm stuck on the third boss in Dues Ex. But it is going to be a snow day today, so I'm going to try to get through Dues Ex while the girlfriend is at the animal shelter.

Like a meta KSP but without all the handy data and you have to eyeball everything.

Super Hot

It's a first-person shooter where time only moves at a normal pace when you are moving; at all other times it slows to a crawl. Getting hit by a single bullet is instant death, but this also goes for the enemy as well. It's only a demo as yet but it's already hit it's kickstarter goal so there's going to be a full game eventually. Hopefully the kickstarter reaches the stretch goal of replays so you can see the crazy matrix shit you pull off at regular speed.

Realm of the mad god. Great free MMO

If you get it on Steam, it's lagless. It also saves all your achievements.

I played that a while back, it's quite a fun game to play casually with no need for massive commitment or grinding, but I remember getting frustrated about it in the end for some reason.

One of my flatmates and I have been playing Star Wars: The Old Republic together, lately. We started off as free players (which still grants access to pretty much the entire game) but we both bought some cartel coins for in-game unlocks so we're permanently "preferred-player" status, which is very playable.

One of the best things in the game is the group aspect - it's really easy to team up with someone (or multiple people) to do missions, flashpoints, etc. What's really well-done within that is that the choices the other person/people make(s) influences the options you have (sometimes).

I never played WoW, but it seems vaguely in the same line. It's Star Wars though, so it's fantastic.*

What was wrong with SWG? It was almost a completely different game every six months or so. So it was like getting a new game over and over again. Bored of the skill oriented combat system? Now it's FPS style! Want to be in a world where everyone is a Jedi? Bam! Everyone's a jedi now!

If only it had more than 40 hours of actual content.
