What's the best horrible movie you've ever seen?
We've all seen them: movies that are so terrible that you absolutely love them. Ren and Stimpy (though actually a TV show) is a prime example of this. Crank and Crank 2 both come to mind as well. It's the audio/visual equivalent of sniffing glue for two hours. Other mentions go out to the entire Die Hard series, Tokyo Gore Police, The Razor, Ichi the Killer (though that was actually quite beautiful at times), anything with Gary Busey, and Silent Hill the movie (which I still list in my top 5 movies of all time).
Any suggestions to add to the list? Don't limit yourself to one genre of movie.

Aren't you the little munchkin of new threads?*
I can think of no movies that are so bad I enjoy them... except Big Trouble in Little China. Die Hard is actually excellent for excellences sake.
*I don't really care, it's just fun to tease.

I'm sick as hell today and have nothing better to do (okay, so I should be studying for midterms but that's actual work).Kimra wrote:Aren't you the little munchkin of new threads?*

Executive Decision.
I loved how much Steven Seagal was billed as a main character and how long he actually lasted. That lone made the whole movie worth while.

If you're interested in "so bad it's good" cinema, don't miss American Movie. Now, American Movie itself is a GREAT film. It's a documentary, a movie about the making of a bad movie. And it's hilarious. Literally, fall in the floor funny. And it's all true! Toward the end it's even very touching. MST3K fans, bad movie fans, people who enjoy documentaries, and anyone interested in the movie making process really ought to see this wonderful film:

Re: What's the best horrible movie you've ever seen?
I have seen all of the Die Hard movies at least a dozen time, and I quote them in everyday life (much to the dismay of my friends and family who all think I'm batshit crazy). But you see Die Hard is a perfect example of what I mean! It kicks ass on 47 different levels! But you have to admit that it certainly shouldn't be winning any oscars (yes yes yes I'm well aware that it won a ton of awards for sound and editing and that the subway scene in Die Hard 2 is the most expensive scene ever shot in cinemagraphic history). I love the movie just as much as you do, I just love to love the poor parts as well. C'mon, "Nine million terrorists in the world and I gotta kill one with feet smaller than my sister" is classic!Edminster wrote:man i used to like you but now you said the first Die Hard movie was horrible so i don't know what to think except maybe you haven't watched it?
I'd also like to nominate Highlander because of this image:

Re: What's the best horrible movie you've ever seen?
honestly man i don't know what you are trying to say but it sounds like you keep trying to call the original Die Hard bad and that is objectively false.
The camerawork, lighting, Direction, et al. was far and away better than most movies out there. It's a movie anybody can enjoy and when you watch it multiple times you pick up small details that you might not have before. All of the characters are well-thought-out and it is possible to relate to every single one of them. It is a consummate example of masterful filmmaking and it is an insult to everybody who worked on it to call it a 'bad' movie just because it's not 'deep' or 'insightful' or 'a thinly-veiled allegory regarding American imperialism but with cat people instead of Iraqis'.
Honestly my only criticism of it (and all of the series that I've seen so far, still waiting for the last one to arrive so it may contradict this) is that it is hilariously racist.

But the black fellow, he has Christmas music. It's hilarious because Bruce Willis did not think it was Christmas music.

Re: What's the best horrible movie you've ever seen?
Let me say here and now: I hated Avatar. And I still think that I'm not getting my point across. This is a thread meant to honor all the movies that don't take themselves seriously. That aren't afraid to send a white naked cop into Harlem wearing a "I hate you all know the slur" sign! That don't expect to go down in history as "deep" or "insightful" but rather as something filled with explosions, one-liners, an occasional flash of tit (not in Die Hard I know), ridiculous amounts of blood, and amazingly improbable plots. When I say "horrible" movie, that's the greatest honor I can bestow on it.Edminster wrote:honestly man i don't know what you are trying to say but it sounds like you keep trying to call the original Die Hard bad and that is objectively false.

For comparison, a list of "masterpieces" that were utter piles of shit: Titanic, Avatar, The Blair Witch Project (scariest movie ever my ass), The Ring (same reason), Star Wars Episode II, The Day the Earth Stood Still (new one), The Passion of the Christ (if I'm going to watch a snuff film just call it as much), and Finding Nemo (though to be fair I was forced to watch it 3 times so my view is biased).

Re: What's the best horrible movie you've ever seen?
All those are pretty terrible, I'd just say the entire Star Wars prequel trilogy. Maybe two good scenes in the bunch. Does anybody here like Avatar? Didn't we have an entire thread about how much it sucks?
