Nah, Wal*Mart only rarely does reservations, and of the reservations they do make you put a deposit down and bring in your receipt when the game comes out. I think the debit card comment was regarding just purchasing the game online. As for an inability to get credit/debit cards, I always go for prepaid because I'm not a fan of credit cards in general, despite constantly getting credit card offers from shitty places like Capital One.

Fun Fact: I don't have a bank account and I'm not sure I could muster up all the ID needed to open one.

If he could at least set up a bank account.
Debit cards are different. There is no assurance on the part of the retailer that there will be money in the account. Usually with reserving they want assurances that the item will be purchased by that person. Which is why they want credit, because there is money there whether the person has it or not.

Because as I said before, Wal*Mart only rarely does things like that. In all the time I worked there I think I only saw two games have preorder as an option, and both of those the preorder was a tangible object (I preordered a DDR game and got a few of the songs from the game on CD) rather than a record in the system. Odds are Wal*Mart doesn't do preorders for everything because it's more of a hassle than it is worth.

I've never seen it, I don't think.
The problem is, with cash, that people are paying for nothing. Which puts them in a difficult position if shipping is delayed, people lose receipts, etc. With credit, they can delay the transaction, and not make it if there is such an issue.

Exactly! Which is why there was always some tchotchke that went with it. Technically, you weren't preordering anything; you were just buying a small little thing for five dollars. That way if things get delayed, you're not sitting there with your thumb up your ass because you already have what you paid for. I went to grab the case for the CD to double-check, and what happens is that inside the case for the trinket you bought is a barcode for five dollars off the game in question. So, for all legal purposes you're not preordering anything and nothing fancy needs to happen with the system.

Wow, K-Mart* will let you preorder anything, with cash. And actually I don't think you even need to put a deposit down, because they are such a big company they know they'll be able to sell it sooner or later, and even if they can't one item not picked up is worth the customer satisfaction they get by allowing people to oder things.

*probably our closest counterpart to WalMart.

I skipped over most of your post but i got the just of it. Wal Mart dont take reservations. I cant get a real visa or master card because of crappy credit. I was going to get a pre paid card and order this one.

I haven't seen a K-Mart in Toronto since the last one closed down, well, years ago.

Am I the only one who's ever figured out the easy method for all of this?

1) Find a stranger
2) Inquire about their monetary status
3) Chloroform them
4) Chloroform their loved ones (children tend to work best)
5) Leave a note on them for when they wake up telling them to buy the game and meet you at ______.
6) Include a finger/tooth/small nonessential body part of the loved one to show them you mean business
7) Get the game from them
8) Kill them all
9) Dispose of their bodies
10) Set up a trail of evidence leading to Steve

I thought that was pretty much typical protocol...

I think you'll find that there's a lot of work involved there, Raziel.

Far more than say shoplifting it or downloading a pirated version.
