Anyone else here click the link labeled "stupid debate involving video games" under today's comic? Like an idiot, I did. Now maybe I'm the only one that this happened to but when I clicked it my entire computer froze, and I had to start the task manager and internet explorer to shut down. I think some sort of virus was downloaded along with it because now, whenever I try to open certain websites (such as dictionary.com, which I use about 900 times a day for my Medieval English Literature class) my computer freezes for about 30 seconds, and then I get an error message saying that internet explorer must shut down. Currently I'm using AVG but it isn't doing jack shit, so does anyone have any suggestions? Also, for those who are wondering: the Ebert link was the only window opened at the time, and my computer had been working just dandy up until the moment I clicked it, so I'm not seeing any major flaws in my theory about where my virus came from (if it is a virus).

I highly doubt that's what's responsible, inasmuch as that is a website for the Chicago Sun-Times, and also I clicked it without any ill side effects, and also Zach probably read it too before posting it.

I don't think chrome is that fantastic. It seems to be slightly slower than firefox, and doesn't like you using any other search engine except google.

Well, I'm currently using Chrome right now and my computer has started working again, so I'm happy. I still choose to blame Roger Ebert for all of my problems however.

How do you mean? It has the option to change your default search engine when you do the whole address bar search, and that works beautifully fine.

But I like to switch quickly depending on what I'm searching for (video/torrent/wikipedia), and Chrome does not have that option as far as I can see.

To go back to the original topic, just because Roger Ebert is a movies critic, it doesn't magically make him a super genius of all media. It's like saying if I were a games critic, and I claimed painting wasn't art, simply because it isn't my medium of choice. I don't see why people are so insanely upset over this.

The arguement is that because it relies on interaction it's less than art. I think that because of how personalized and varied it can be based on the individual that it is MORE than other kinds in ways. Not to even start thinking that some forms of art are better than others, but just as film replaced print as the focus of the propoganda machine to influence us, so can games move further in exploiting us.

Yeah, his whole argument seemed to be based on the fact that videogames aren't as 'refined' or at a high enough level as symphonies or the sistine chapel or whatever, so is not art.
Seems like a bit of a narrow definition of art to me.
