Law Abiding Citizen and A Perfect Getaway - I seen 'em!

Post by davoid »

And they're both actually really cool, despite getting pretty poor reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (if I recall correctly.)

"A Perfect Getaway" is basically a horror/slasher/thriller about this newlywed couple on their honeymoon in Hawaii who have to survive and outwit some mysterious murderers loose on the island.

"Law Abiding Citizen" is one you all have probably already seen. It's about this guy whose family is murdered, and who sees no justice done on his behalf. Basically the whole film is this guy, by sheer force of his badassedness, exacting revenge on everyone.

Both are ultimately kind of dumb and flash-in-the-pan movies when held up to the light of genuine cinematic value ("A Perfect Getaway" probably more so than "Law Abiding Citizen.") But, both are really engaging and both have very interesting twist endings. They both made me (to paraphrase or perhaps just entirely make up a quote from Vonnegut) "cackle and drool" with delight throughout their entireties in that childish "oh, shit, this movie is awesome" kind of way. In fact, my girlfriend actually yelled at me during "Law Abiding Citizen" for laughing hysterically and clapping during one of the murder scenes.

Basically, don't expect a "good" movie, per se, from either. But, definitely check them out if you have the time.

P.S. - I liked "Law Abiding Citizen" much more than "A Perfect Getaway," but I group them together because they both strike me as being in the same vein of thrilleresque, twist-ended, bloody films.

P.P.S - I know these are pretty old films by now, and so I'm sorry if a thread about either of them was already made. If it was... hey, did anyone see "Clash of the Titans?!"

Law Abiding Citizen is in my Netflix queue so thank you for not spoiling it despite being older! I would never have heard of the movie if it wasn't for the Law Abiding Engineer fan trailer.

Law Abiding Citizen didn't get great reviews, but it probably wasn't my thing anyway.

I love Law Abiding Engineer. I actually have it favorited in my browser so that I can immediately show it to people/rewatch it whenever the mood strikes me.

I didn't really like Law Abiding Citizen. Though I find Butler to be very watchable in this type of film (like Gamer, for example), so that made it a little better.

The trailer looked pretty terrible. I saw the film Paparazzi, which was also terrible in that it glorifyied being a murdering vigilante.

I actually liked Daybreakers. Although maybe that's because I have a soft spot for vampires, and Michael Dorman is in it.
I am really looking forward to Inception though, should be out June or July I think.

I hear Heath Ledger's in it. Turns out his death was a really coordinated viral campaign.

Inception is coming out July 15 or close to that. At least thats when it comes out here. It irritates me that they are already advertising it quite heavily. I mean, I didn't even realize that Ironman 2 was out until a few days before because that was when I saw the first TV ad, and now I'm seeing ads for Inception a month and a half in advance.

As for Daybreakers, it had a boatload of potential that it spectacularly didn't live up to. I mean, such a fantastic premise, but poor execution.

Yeah, I didn't really dig Daybreakers either. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood when I went to see it.

Inception looks really cool, though. This is actually the first I'm hearing about it, but wikipedia makes it sound like something I'd enjoy. I love Christopher Nolan and Leonardo DiCaprio, too, so I figure it can't fail.

P.S. - DOHMAIGOD NEW KARATE KID. I can't wait!

I am not going to see karate kid at all. We do not need to remake every single god damn thing.
Also, law abiding citizen seemed really interesting from the trailer. I might go next week and see it.

Do you have to be in a specific mood to see bad movies? I dunno, it was obviously an allegory for dependence on oil, and thought that made it deep.
