Doors do not seem to be particularly endangered.

When's the last time you've seen a door in the wild?

Most people have moved away from putting up stuffed dead animals as trophies because of the cruelty and inhumanity, but for some reason the same has not happened with the millions of people who would not hesitate to put up several doors in their house for display.

Yeah, everyone knows the idiom "to take the door by the knobs" - carpe dorem; seize the wood. "A door in the hand is worth two in the frame". It's a door-eat-door world out there, 'a cellar-door never forgets', among others.

Stuffing a carcass is cruel and inhumane? Maybe to anyone that has to see it but that creature is already dead. This is why I make sure to kill all my doors before mounting them into place.

According to Felstaff's picture I was talking about the grooves around the panels, (I was talking about the first kind of door) I suppose I could be meaning just panels

Pst. I'd call them grooves. Grooves around panels if I had to be specific.

Sometimes, I try to switch to "show, not tell" when I want to refer to a specific part of an object.

i.e. "The door had beaded panel grooving" = NO

"His blood splashed over the door panelling, and flowed in uniform runnels down the grooves" = YES

Are you implying you like to write well? I'm not sure that's a safe option.

I'm implying that my pre-school children's stories tend to end up with a lot of blood splashing over a lot of surfaces.

My basement door won't do anything unless I kick its butt hinge.

Try calling it cellar door. It might like it.
