Someone tell me what the votey means:
Image
The aunt wants her to ... bleed?

I get most of the others, except maybe the last one: bun in the oven, horizontal mambo, family jewels, one-eyed trouser snake (a sure way to get killed if you use that as a pick-up line), ... not sure what "we had words" is supposed to reference.

Aunt Flo arriving is, I assume, a euphemism for menstruation. The joke is that the euphemism becomes redundant when she mentions the very word she would be trying to avoid in the euphemism itself. I posted this earlier, only for the server to go down. But yes, reminds me of a scene in the IT crowd.

So, uh, the part about balls really should be "Ouch, he kicked me in the family testicles".

Balls are also a euphemism.

So then it's a euphemism and a half!

Euphemisms generally aren't considered vulgar.

Aaah. I had no idea.

And the "we had words"?

"We had words" is what you say to your kids when you've been arguing pretty heavily. It's a "half-euphemism" because the content of those words is pretty clear.

Aaah, now it makes sense.

English sure has weird euphemisms.

This comic, more than any before, actually reminds me of XKCD.

Aunt Flo is visiting is one, the painters are in is another, or that you had a visit from your friend.

None of them cover five days of excruciating pain while your body excretes dead matter

That does not sound good. Have you seen a doctor about it?

Back in the Bad Times, when I was missing weeks of class at a time, I would tell people when I got back that I had just returned from a visit to Catatonia.

I like to think that that's where Aunt Flo lives, with all her other euphemism friends.
