I ended up getting a belt clip watch. It doesn't get in my way, is more accessible than my phone, it was considerably cheaper than a wristwatch of similar quality and people can wonder why I'm looking at my crotch.

Even while standing? Are you bending down so that your nearly upside-down face can spot the watch and proclaim: "It is seven o'cock"?

I did this, and was amazed at my ability to see clearly through a tiny pinprick. It worked!

RE wristwatches:
I used my phone for the time exclusively until I started working as a nurse in the hospital. You really need one when you need to note respirations and pulses all the time.
