I'm currently studying economics, and this comic made me realize how few of my professors actually have beards! I can't think of a single one!! That said, I see it as my responsibility to grow a beard before finishing my studies.

On the reason behind the beardlessness of economists, I have a theory: I'm not a biologist, but is it possible that beard growth is naturally stunted on those genetically most likely to study economics? To me it seems most economists don't even have the option to grow a full, manly beard (myself included), even if they had the desire.

Any views on the matter, or tips on beard growth?

Ahh, so THAT's why economists hate Marx so much. It all makes sense now.

I would totally save the old lady, cuz that way I would go down in history as the dude that let the Mona Lisa burn.

So I randomly read some Classic SMBC for the first time yesterday, and today's comic reminded me of one of the old ones.

Honestly, I was surprised it was an economist. Was half expecting it to be a libertarian, with a crowd cheering for his decision at the end. :P

What "fractions" is the economist talking about?

The question is: how many lives can you save in Africa for one Mona Lisa's worth? :geek2:

Last time the Mona Lisa was appraised for insurance reasons it was valued at a cool 100.000.000 dollars, but that was way back in 1962 so inflation brings it yo something like 750.000.000. According to a commercial I saw at like three in the morning you can support a starving child in africa for only one dollar a day, which means you could keep a little over 100.000 children alive from birth until 18 for the price of a mona lisa.

Yeah, especially those freeloading bastard children who seem to depend on your money alone until adulthood. Get a job, you starving hippy children!

Further number crunching says that you could support instead about 26.000 starving africans from birth until death if they live for the current average lifespan and somehow maintain life at one dollar a day.

So in a roundabout totally not even in the ballpark estimate the mona lisa is worth the entire life force of 26.000 starving african children.

Life force? Goddamn it Ed! You think you know a guy, then he turns out to follow vitalism.
