They obviously don't have the same chromosomes, the rib is a metaphor for god giving the Y chromosome the extra leg it needs to become the X chromosome.

I heard the "rib" could actually have meant "penis bone", which would make a lot more sense - men have all ribs but unlike other mammals don't have a penis bone, which ancient people must have noticed. It would also fit in perfectly with other penis-related themes in the Old Testament.
