[2012-Mar-07] Existential dating

Post by Issoisso »

Another attempt at the good old SMBC formula of "Philosophical concept + life situation + bunch of text = funny + insightful"

I'm not quite sure it worked here, maybe it is missing the insightful part.

It's not particularly funny either.

Not enough text. That's the problem.
Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that there isn't an invisible demon
about to eat your face.

Did anybody else notice that the lawn magically disappeared while the man was giving his speech?

Does anyone know what he's talking about with the blue apples? It sounds like some reference to qualia, which is something that intrigued me in my philosophy courses, precisely because I never understood why it was such a big deal. All the philosophers seem so obsessed with the perception of color and red apples, and it always seemed like they were making something out of nothing, which I guess is kind of what philosophers do.

But regardless: does anyone recognize the blue apple bit as alluding to some specific theory/essay/thought experiment that I could read about?

You should've left the last screen out (stopped at handjob). Then it would've been hilarious. Now it was just, meh.

Crunchy Pete apparently doesn't know that an individual piece of a comic is called a panel not a screen.

And I'm not sure about it being good without the last panel. Better, certainly. But I feel like we've been to this place before. I have thoroughly learned the lesson that appealing to philosophy doesn't help you get sex.

I personally think the comics with one panel are the best. They are most likely to have an actual joke. The jesus one is a good example.

But, it's the only new element to the Weiner's classic formula "one guy try to obtain a very materialist thing by giving an intellectual speech with a twist in the end where the fact he is hypocritical become evident". Are you against innovation ?

Necessity is the mother of innovation, to paraphrase the famous quote.

If it's not necessary to innovate, don't.
