Yeah! Take that !

Thankfully he hasn't yet laid the smack down on Reformed Neo Buddhism.*

*I wouldn't want to have to downgrade to a Level 4 Laser Lotus.

Those chinese have so many religions it will take hundreds of comics to discredit all of them. But I think we can do it.

I don't think he is attacking Buddhism, I think he is possibly making fun of westerners who automatically take anything from a Buddhist monk as wise and inspired or possibly just people who eat up eastern monastic or mystic thought in general. /shrug.

yea, I had to read it three times to process it. I got it the first time, but the phrasing is awkward to say the least. Although I've know pseudo-spiritual/intellectual, buffet-Buddhists douchebags who talk like that, so maybe he was just mimicking that type of person.

Is there missing punctuation in the second panel?

"I don't accept that I need it said by an individual who ..."

What?

I thought it was the Dalai lama he was mocking, but he doesn't give useful advice, just metaphysical wank and propaganda.

I'm fairly sure most of these comments are sarcastic.

I don't think my faith in the human race could take them not being sarcastic.

I think the only problem with the Dalai Lama is that a lot of people seem to think he is some supreme being of limitless wisdom. He's just an ordinary man trying to live a spiritual life, who was chosen to be a spiritual leader when he was very young. I don't think he's ever claimed to be anything otherwise. All he's concerned with is leading a good life, and providing guidance to others as is the responsibility given to him. All you can really learn from him is how happy and full of life he is, and what choices he's made to enable that attitude to life.

But yeah, down with Buddhism!

I think Zach Weiner has no place criticizing people who are socially empowered to state the obvious when that's like 95% of his schtick.

I think the fun part of any SMBC comic lately is the cringe of anticipating, then the inevitable face palm when reaching the panel with the pretentious bullshit setup for the un-funny punchline. The former and latter spaced out by at least a half dozen of "Ok, i get it" panels expounding on said pretentious bullshit.
