Who knows what units the purple blobs use. Maybe they didn't define their length unit based on the speed of light so their definition of the speed of light is not nearly as precise.

Although it's not a trivial question since it's just as valid to write it

Even calling it "the" 11235th digit is problematic since it could equally be 0 or 9. Maybe that's what puzzled them?
