Hitting my hand with a hammer is also free, but I'm not stupid enough to do it.

You are neglecting devaluation of the hammer due to wear and tear in your economic model.

That's quite a boast.

Wear and tear? What do you think my hands are made of?
Maybe the blood spattering on the hammer would bring value down?
Fine, I'll use a rock.

The marginal benefit of hitting your hand with a hammer is always negative...

Wouldn't Veblen goods be a more relevant example?

Sounds like a marketing issue. Try repackaging.

Yes, because Giffen goods are largely theoretical and have not been observed at the market level in any appreciable way.*
Staple foods in very poor areas that experience a sudden price shock have been observed. Potatoes in Ireland, rice in rural China. Price goes up, people have to have X amount of it, now they can't afford variety, so they must buy more staple food.

Seriously. I even said I was just trolling. I know very little about econ. I read like one paragraph in wikipedia on Giffen goods before posting. Are econ people that desperate to talk about econ?
