Never fight for social justice. It's just not on.

Since when is chemistry not a science?

Exactly, it's far better to be a social injustice warrior.

Guys, GUYS!

It goes deeper than that.

Both comics use DRAWINGS.

I've done some more research and I didn't realise how far down the rabbit hole goes.

Both comics use LETTERS!

But wait, those letters are strung together to form WORDS!

These words are strung together to form some sort of secret code.

You aren't going to believe it, but I think it might be ENGLISH!

Sarcasm is a rarely effective technique, especially when utilised alone. It only works when used sparingly, as part of a wider range of rhetorical devices, in order to create a sufficiently cutting gibe, which is what I presumed you were going for.

And that's how sarcasm is used effectively. Bravo.

Yes, Zach definitely decided he was going to ripoff a 20+ year old dilbert comic.

That's a low hanging joke about a social lie, like the following:
The drawing field is divided into four sectors like a 2x2 matrix. The top of the left column has the title "what I say", op of the left column - "what I think".
Panel 1.1: the protagonist wearing a uniform is standing behind a shop counter. A snooty looking lady is in front of the counter. speech balloon: "Have a nice day".
Panel 1.2: same scene. thought balloon: "I hope you die in a fire, bitch."
Panel 2.1: the protagonist wearing T-shirt and jeans is smiling waving to another similarly dressed character. Speech balloons: "Die in a fire, bitch!", "Only if it means I won't see your ugly mug!"
Panel 2.2: same scene. shared thought balloon: "I hope you have the best day ever!".
It's obvious and every teenage "starving web-artist" made one.

Aren't both comics ultimately derivative of Voltaire's The Good Brahmin?

You're thinking of the intellectual bifurcation of Garfield and Odie.

It's clearly a ripoff of Oedipus Rex.

There's a joke I remember from a dead tree joke book before either of these web comics was started. The joke probably predates the web; there is probably a Greek version they used to tell about Plato.

There's a meeting in a College, and a genie appears and tells the Dean "for all your hard work, you can have unlimited knowledge, unlimited happiness, or unlimited money."

Without hesitation, the Dean replies, "the knowledge, of course!"

The genie nods, disappears, and everyone stares at the Dean.

"Well? Say something!"

"... I should have taken the money."
