Here where I live in Russia it's actually more difficult to come across the non-mad variety of sociology. Just google the numerous Moscow State University department of sociology scandals.

For a counter example showing what "real" mad science sociology would look like, c.f. Asimov's Foundation series.

In order to determine if mad sociology was a real mad science or not, the mad sociologists ran a poll which resulted in 55% of the polled sociology students answering that they believed so, Q.E.D.

Not to be TOO much of a downer, but there's an example of sociologists (this was back when anthropologists and sociologists were basically the same profession) committed at least one horrendous act of real life mad "science".

I don't know about that. I remember all my sociology classes ending with the conclusion that we should eliminate or enslave all lesser races. It certainly made the debates on multiculturalism easy to resolve.
