I just ran a meta analysis combining my recollection of reading the newspaper comics for the last 50 years, and the two statistical reports earlier in this thread.
Even if Zach were to include a gratuitous gay couple in every comic for the next 50 years, gay couples would still be underrepresented in the comic realm.

That's more than 25% of all relationships depicted as being homosexual, though this is a very small sample. One thing to note though is that all the homosexual relationships were between two males, and 3 of the 4 depicted them having sex. To me it seems that homosexual relationships receive different treatment to heterosexual relationships in this comic.
I might take it on to parse a larger amount of comics after work just for science. But I know there have been plenty of lesbians and plenty of homosexual relationships shown in a non sexual manner

It is over-representing if you take into account the general population. If you take into account the amount of people that like this comic, the gay is probably much higher.
The over-representation that actually gets me is the amount of people depicted wanting to hook-up with nerds, when in real life they most often have to settle romancing pillows, robots, plastic figures and 2D cartoon girls.
