The Shannara Series

And I thought Christopher Paolini stole plotlines, the first book of this series is essentially a Tolkien rewrite. And not a very good one. It continues for that vein for quite some time; the only books I enjoyed was The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy.
My overall summary of a completely biased review: The main series is pretty bad, but it gets better as it goes. Eventually, you might even find yourself interested while reading.
Agree? Disagree? Want to saw my head off with a rusty spoon? Reply.

Yup. Read one and a half books and gave up on it. Complete crap. Like most fantasy series sadly.

Ah come-on it's like light reading for the Tolkien fan.... plus, I found it riveting when I was eleven.

I found plenty of books riveting when I was 11. Doesn't mean they're any good.

Also, welcome! Glad to see you found your way out of the Caption Contest.

Heh, I got the omnibus edition of the original trilogy since ye apparently can't get the singles anymore here in Australia :/ unless it's just a crappy bookstore that was pushing their shit on me...

Either way, I got about 50 pages in and haven't picked it up again. It was sooooo slow moving at the start that I just couldn't be bothered.
One of my fantasy storylines will now have an ELDERLY hero and a young person has to come and tell them all the important information they need to complete their quest.

Or not. Maybe.
